Wedding Flowers

This post brings together wedding flowers by kind: roses, hydrangeas, orchids, and anthuriums, callas and carnations, followed by the colours they were chosen in. The examples range from a ceremony arch of white roses and blue hydrangeas to bouquets of white orchids, low hydrangeas on toile and a runner of red gerbera, at palaces in Austria, a chateau in Provence and a villa in Tuscany.

Wedding Roses

Roses are still the most popular wedding flower, and they were used in white, peach, yellow, apricot and terracotta. For Caroline and Andrew's ceremony in August 2025, Hana Holdener combined white roses with blue hydrangeas and delphinium on a flower arch in the garden of the Gartenpalais Liechtenstein. The arch was placed at the end of an aisle of white chairs under the trees.

Peach and yellow roses were chosen for the dinner table at the Belvedere and combined with white lilies and orchids. For a staircase at Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, apricot roses were arranged on the stone steps with white hydrangeas, pale anthuriums and green button chrysanthemums, between white pillar candles.

Garden roses in peach were part of the centrepieces Silvia Mattera designed for Linda and Yves at Villa Grabau in Tuscany, with coral snapdragons, carnations and halved papayas on the tables. In the bride's bouquet at the Stadtpalais Liechtenstein, roses in terracotta were combined with anthuriums.

You can keep your roses to one colour for the whole day, or choose a different shade for the ceremony, the tables and your bouquet.

Hydrangeas for Weddings

Hydrangeas were used in blue, white, pink and sage green, in tall arrangements as well as low ones. For a wedding at Schloss Laxenburg, Ilviras Blumen arranged blue hydrangeas with white and peach roses and blue delphinium in tall glass vases, one above each round table, in a hall with crystal chandeliers and a painted ceiling.

White hydrangeas were the base of the low arrangements on the dinner table at Schloss Leopoldskron, combined with orange celosia, red anthuriums and orange taper candles on green and white toile. For the rings, a white rose with pink and sage green hydrangea was arranged around an orange velvet box.

Blue hydrangeas were mixed with peach and pink flowers on a drinks table at Villa Grabau. The seating plan for Caroline and Andrew at the Gartenpalais was decorated with hydrangeas and roses in blue and white.

You could make hydrangeas the main flower of a tall centrepiece, or use them as a low base for brighter flowers in between.

Orchid Wedding Flowers

Orchids were used for bouquets, tables, a cake and a ceremony arch. The bride's bouquet at the Belvedere was made of white flowers with small yellow orchids. For the ceremony in a gilded hall with mirrors, an arch of white flowers with callas and orchids was designed, and on the long dinner table tall orchid stems were combined with low roses in yellow and white.

Peach orchids were arranged with anthuriums and chrysanthemums in blue and white porcelain vases at the Stadtpalais Liechtenstein, and a single orchid was placed on each menu card. The wedding cake there was decorated with orchids and hydrangeas, with florals in terracotta and green.

For Marisa and Ryan's wedding at Schloss Leopoldskron, the bride's bouquet was made of white orchids and callas. In the park at Laxenburg, a bouquet of orchids, roses and amaranth was designed in terracotta and apricot.

An orchid can be the main flower of your bouquet, or a single stem on every place setting.

Anthuriums, Callas and Carnations

Anthuriums, callas, carnations, gerbera and dahlias were combined with roses and hydrangeas, or used on their own. One long table at Schloss Hof in Lower Austria was designed with a runner of red gerbera, carnations and callas along its whole length, with pale pink pompon dahlias and gypsophila in between, rosé taper candles and cherries scattered over the cloth.

You can mix one less expected flower into a classic arrangement, or design a whole table around it.

Wedding Flower Colours

For the ceremony by the lake at Schloss Leopoldskron, flowers in orange, white and apricot were arranged in a horseshoe, with orange velvet stools in curved rows on both sides.

Terracotta and rosé were the colours chosen for the pavilion in the Schlosspark Laxenburg, with roses, anthuriums and hydrangeas on its columns and an autumn bouquet for the bride.

At Chateau Martinay, the flowers were kept to white and green, and the bride's bouquet was made of white callas. Blue and white was the palette at the Gartenpalais Liechtenstein, yellow and white at the Belvedere, red and pink at Schloss Hof, and peach and coral at Villa Grabau.

Common Questions

What are the most popular wedding flowers?

Roses are still the most popular wedding flower. Hydrangeas, orchids, callas and peonies are often combined with them in one arrangement, for example white roses with blue hydrangeas or white orchids with callas. Anthuriums, gerbera, carnations, dahlias and snapdragons are less expected choices and can be mixed with the classics or used on their own, as on the long table at Schloss Hof.

Which flowers are used for a wedding arch?

Roses and hydrangeas are a classic combination for a wedding arch, usually with greenery between them. The arch at the Gartenpalais Liechtenstein combined white roses with blue hydrangeas and delphinium. At the Belvedere, white flowers with callas and orchids were used for an arch indoors, and at Chateau Martinay white flowers and greenery with hydrangeas were chosen for a ceremony outside.

Which flowers are good for a fall wedding?

Roses in terracotta, apricot and rosé, anthuriums, hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, dahlias and amaranth all work in autumn colours. The pavilion in the Schlosspark Laxenburg was decorated with roses, anthuriums and hydrangeas in terracotta and rosé, and the bouquet combined orchids, roses and amaranth. Blue and white porcelain vases with apricot flowers were chosen for the dinner table at the Stadtpalais Liechtenstein.

Which white flowers are used for weddings?

White roses, hydrangeas, callas, orchids and lilies are the most common white wedding flowers. Gypsophila and Queen Anne's lace are often added between them. A white bouquet can be made of a single flower, like the callas at Chateau Martinay, or of two, like the white orchids and callas at Schloss Leopoldskron. White flowers are also easy to combine with a second colour, such as blue or yellow.
